ADDICTION: It is not what we know!

What causes addiction? Pretty Easy it is, right? We all know that drugs are the cause of addiction. Well, maybe it ain’t that simple. It was almost certain for me to write a blog on this topic after reading ‘Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs.’ Written by Johann Hari. I hope we do not break any copywrite laws here. But the book portrayed a very interesting and realistically logical perception about the word we all have heard of – ADDICTION. Let’s say for example if someone will ask you how one gets addicted to heroin, you will instantaneously respond with an obvious answer that heroin is the cause of heroin addiction. Sound fair enough. Let us see how it works. If you take heroin injections for 20 days, by the 21 st day your body physically will yearn for the drug rapaciously as there are chemical hooks in the drug. And this is what addiction is. Right? Well, that is how we all know ...

The Great Weed Conspiracy

Marijuana or Cannabis or Hemp or Ganja, many names for one great commodity - Weed is the most widely used illegal drug in the world with more than 125 million people consuming it in some way or the other every year. In India, marijuana use has been historically bound to religion and mysticism. It is claimed to be a drug that helps the ‘stoner’ attain "ecstasy in the original sense of the word". India has a heritage of charas (hash or hashish, which is made from weed seeds), bhang and weed for centuries. Although, enactment of stringent narcotic laws in 1986 made the production, transportation, sale and consumption of Cannabis illegal in the country. But why exactly is the ban? Marijuana was not illegal from the very beginning, in fact it was completely legal in India till 1985. But after that under the pressure of the United States, Rajiv Gandhi’s Government put up a nationwide ban on cannabis. Although we humans are a bunch of hypocrites leave the politician...

Katy Perry posts picture of Goddess Kali and we are offended again!

If there's anything that has come out of the recent Snapchat and Sonu Nigam outbursts, it's that most of us Indians are just waiting to get offended. Literally, we would just lose our shit even if some outsider call our country as poor and developing one. "NO", we aren't (that) poor but yes 1 out of 5 Indians do live below the extreme poverty level! The level of hypocrisy is damn too high! This time it's because of American singer-songwriter Katy Perry. Katy recently shared a photo of Goddess Kali on her Instagram with the caption 'Current mood' and suddenly all hell broke loose. While some fans came to Perry's support, a majority of Instagram users slammed her for posting the picture, calling the move disrespectful. It is important to know that the singer is drawn towards the Indian culture and she hasn't kept this fascination a secret. In fact, back in 2010, she chose Rajasthan (She could've easily chosen Las Vegas, ...

Sonu Nigam Azaan Controversy

About a week ago, there was this wave of nationalism due to the Snapchat "poorcountry" remark . And the hatchet wasn’t buried yet there was another fight to be fought. Yes, we found ourselves in between of some eyebrow-raising controversy. And this time, it was about a someone influential apparently hurting a particular religion's statement. It was maybe just his opinion and what people did was to twist his statement and then get offended by him, as we Indians are so good at taking offences that if were a sport, then we could be damn sure, Ki Olympics mein gold to apne le hi aayenge. (we'll be easily fetching some gold medals in Olympics) Sonu Nigam, quite a big shot in Bollywood and also a prominent name in playback singing, apparently received a lot of attention for something he would be proud of. On 17th of April, 2017, he was woken up by the morning Azaan (the Islamic call for prayer) from a mosque which is about 500 m away from his house. God ble...
